Schneider at the POWTECH 2002, Nuremberg Trade Fair Grounds

From October 8 - 10, 2002, Schneider will be exhibiting a representative cross-section of its product range at the POWTECH 2002, the 23rd International Trade Fair for Mechanical Processing Technologies and Instrumentation.

Of particular interest for visitors to the Schneider stand is that alongside the film reel lifter ROBUSTO FRL 120 with spindle gripping fixture and 90 degree film reel rotation already presented for the first time at the Interpack, the new aluminium sheeted-deck pallet - fully in line with GMP requirements - will also be making its debut at the Powtech.

This new pallet features a sheeted pallet deck which - in contrast to pallets with plank profiles - leave no traps for dirt and bacteria. At the same time, its sandwich construction with integrated PP honeycomb core offers outstanding stability.

The extension of the tried and tested ROBUST fork lift weigh truck range deserves particular mention: These trucks are now available optionally with BIZERBA or BERKEL display units, allowing us to respond more flexibly to customer requirements.

The silver-matt gloss of its surface lends aluminium an appearance of class and sophistication. Its unusual resistance to corrosion is the result of the fact that a hardly visible hard oxide layer forms on the surface very quickly on exposure to air. This layer protects the metal below from further oxidation. As a result, although aluminium reacts very quickly to oxygen, we may say that it does not "rust".

Using the technique of anodization, it is possible to technically harden aluminium. This process entails reinforcing the natural oxide layer. Standard techniques used over many years are the direct current / sulphuric acid (GS) and the direct current / sulphuric acid / oxalic acid (GSX) method. For technical applications, several hard anodizing techniques exist in addition. Anodized layers are not thermally or electrically conductive.

The anodizing technique can also be used to colour the surface of the aluminium.

Anodization of aluminium is used, for example

in the design of building facades (window frame elements)
for cookware (frying pans with an anodized layer are substantially less sensitive than non-stick coated pans)
in the technical field (for example in the lifting column of the Voyager lifter series from Schneider)
